Africa Rising: A lecture by Jonathan Berman, Author, Investor & Advisor

Africa Rising: A lecture by Jonathan Berman, Author, Investor & Advisor

In an era of slowing growth, Africa is home to a trillion-dollar, resource-rich economy, and six of the ten fastest growing markets in the world. Entrepreneurs in search of the next big thing – the next big market, the next technological advance – are looking to Africa as fertile ground.

With the access and perspective of two decades working with corporate leaders in frontier markets, Jonathan Berman will address the critical questions companies and investors ask: Is there "an Africa?" Who would I work with there and what drives them? How do I deal with government? What about war, disease and poverty? What about China? How do I win? With candor and humor, the men and women succeeding in Africa give the answers in his new book: Success in Africa.

President Bill Clinton calls it "important and timely." Legendary investor Mark Mobius describes Success in Africa as "dynamite." Former Coke CEO Neville Isdell said it's simply "a great book." Mr. Berman's new book provides on-the-ground perspective, personal stories, and insight that Robert Rubin calls "essential reading for all who are interested in Africa for reasons of business, investment, policy, or curiosity."

Jonathan Berman is the CEO of JE Berman Associates, an investment and advisory firm. He is a graduate of Yale and Berkeley, and is a life member of the Council on Foreign Relations. Berman previously served as partner and director of the corporate practice at Dahlberg, a strategic advisory firm focused on frontier markets with fourteen offices worldwide. He has advised a number of global fortune 500 companies on entry and operations in emerging and frontier markets. Most of his clients have included global leaders in the oil and gas industries, as well as mining, agribusiness, healthcare, education, information technology and consumer goods. He has also worked with governments and investors that are active in these industries.

Mr. Berman currently serves on the board of directors of Asoko insight, an information services company that delivers superior data and analysis on African corporations to customers worldwide.

His book Success in Africa: CEO Insights From A Continent on the Rise will be available for purchase following the program.

This program is held in partnership with His Highness the Aga Khan Council for the Southwestern United States.
